Do I have periodontal disease?
Recently I’ve notice my gums turning dark purplish red with black rings on the edges of the gums around the teeth and some swelling. I’m confused as what exactly it is because I’ve researched heavily into Periodontal disease but All stages say there is bleeding. But I do not suffer from sensitivity or bleeding gums when brushing. Neither am I a Coffee tea drinker and I don’t smoke. I FIRST thought I have advanced perio but that’s not possible because I have no bleeding or discomfort when eating etc,. Please

Sable answers:
Scurvy? Those are symptoms of scurvy
where the tip of the gums are dark red or “blood shot”
Periodontal disease would be obvious
receding gums, and red gums and eventually loose teeth and teeth lose
sorry im late to reply

Joseph asks…
COMPLICATED dental problems, what are my options, can I keep my teeth?!?
Good dental practices thruout childhood, brushed daily, floss rarely though, at age of 14 started smoking ciggs, developed insane addiction to MT DEW,dabbled in some drug use (weekend recreational f(meth) for approx 1 yr) until became preg at 16. Then again at 18. Wisdom teeth came, to dentist 1st time since 14, was told I had “severe” plaque and I think some pretty major cavities, maybe mild gum disease (cant remember, had bleeding gums then, not now). Wisdom teeth out age 19-20-dry socket, finally healed. About 3 yrs ago went to see dentist for pain again and a “crumbling” tooth in the back. Was told I had severe bone loss d/t periodontal disease, had the teeth (Jaw?)of a 65 year old at 25. Resolved that acute issue and no more dentist. Now-my teeth are loose! (im 28) large gaps between them developing, DEEP pockets in gums, makes it painful to eat. Went to dentist 1week ago, 3 abscess teeth in back ,need root canals if I dont pull them. Intermittent sharp pain to my right side.

Sable answers:
You have “Meth Mouth.” This is what happens when you use Methamphetamines. Recreational? For a year? That’s what did most of the damage. Then the pregnancy. Pregnancy pulls a lot of calcium out of your body for the baby. A lot of women get teeth problems (usually cavities) during/after a pregnancy. Having a baby right after getting off Meth…..well that is your answer. Can you keep your teeth? No. If the dentist says you have severe bone loss, your teeth will just begin to fall out because there is nothing underneath to hold them in. You won’t be able to get implants either. False teeth would be your only option. And you would have to get the plates relined every 6-12 months because of the bone loss. The plates won’t fix and you’ll have lose false teeth.

Chris asks…
I need help please………?
I think I have Periodontal disease or some other gum disease. My gums are fine but my teeth (more than half) started to rot in the bottom going under the gums and the size of each “decay” is from 1 millimeter to 4 milimeters. They are also very painful when pressed on, as well as the teeth are weakened and this is progressing.
I have 2 questions. How can I slow the progression as my dental insurance starts in exactly 4 months from today and will I be able to fix this without surgery? I definitely don’t wanna use dentures. Just a year ago I could open a beer bottle with them.
Smoking and coffee caused it. I smoked 2-3 packs a day.

Sable answers:
Well I guess all you can really do is not smoke or drink coffee or any other acidic foods (orange juice, ketchup, anything with tomatoes or “citric acid”) and keep your teeth clean. Brush twice a day, floss once a day, and swish twice a day with mouthwash.

Receding gum around one tooth?
My gum seems to be receding around my first premolar at the bottom. It also seems to be receding a bit around the incisor next to it as well. I think this is caused by abrasive brushing because I have no signs of gum disease, and the receding is only around those two teeth. I do tend to brush pretty roughly around this area, however I don’t notice myself doing it until I am almost finished brushing.
If you had periodontal disease wouldn’t it occur around every tooth instead of just two? Thanks.
I’m 16 and I don’t smoke, if that’s important.
It’s not bad enough to have it fixed. It’s only receding at the front too, the back is fine. It’s barely even noticeable, so i’m not going to spend all that money to fix it if it’s not even bad.

Sable answers:
You’ve stated that you brush pretty roughly around the area, so it’s more than likely caused by abrasive brushing. It’s not out of the ordinary for gum recession to occur only around a few teeth, but in your situation, I believe it’s abrasive brushing.
If you have a hard bristled tooth brush, go to the store and buy a softer one. When you brush your teeth, don’t brush too fast and don’t put so much pressure on the brush. You can also buy some Listerine Antiseptic and rinse your mouth with that twice a day just in case you do have a mild case of gum disease. It’ll clear it up within a few weeks. Good luck.

Sandra asks…
my gums are receding?
i’m setting up an appointment with my dentist soon, but here’s the deal: recently i’ve been noticing my gums have been sore and bleed when i brush and floss. there’s one tooth in particular (top left canine) in which the gums are receding, and it’s progressed pretty quickly over the past 3 days. today it looks as if my tooth could loosen up any second, but feels quite normally in place. the gums appear to be near the start of the tooth and it’s really frightening me. i smoke, and i have really misaligned teeth. i brush at least twice a day, and just recently started using listerine total care and floss, but to no avail. it’s only gotten worse in the period of time i’ve been using it. periodontal disease has occurred in both my mother and my grandfather and it looks like that’s the case here. does any body have any advice or treatment recommendations until i make it to the dentist, as i really don’t want this to get any worse and it seems the conventional methods just aren’t working for me.

You need scaling and polishing to remove stains and calculus deposited on teeth. Though you brush your teeth 2 times daily, you need some tips for MAINTANENCE OF PROPER ORAL HYGIENE:-
1. Brush you teeth with SOFT BRISTLE toothbrush 2 times daily.
2. Proper Brushing Technique is to brush your teeth VERTICALLY (up and down motion) than horizontally (motion while brushing to remove the bacterial plaque more efficiently and also to avoid injury to the gum and teeth in the long run.
3. Make sure that you brush ALL surfaces of your teeth.
4. After brushing don’t forget to brush your tongue with the same brush which will prevent bad breath.
5. Apply gentle pressure to your teeth and tongue while brushing. Excessive pressure can injure soft tissues and may even cause abrasion (mechanical injury to the teeth due to excessive pressure and habit of brushing the teeth horizontally)
6. Ideally, brushing all the surfaces of teeth require atleast 4 mins.
7. After meals swish water in your mouth and remove the food particles attached to your teeth and gum.
Good Oral Hygiene is a key to keep your overall health better as many diseases start from mouth and may cause systemic problems. These 7 tips can save you from number of diseases which may cause serious complications in the long run. This also proves the proverb “PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE”
Thanks!
